We have come across two areas that seem to offer real opportunities for further progress in the fight against dirty money:
- Developing better measures or indicators of the amount of money laundered in the UK
- Strengthening independent input into the UK’s FATF evaluation from around the world
We have written up short notes for each, based on input from experts in the Latimer Network and others. The notes set out our understanding of current analysis and ideas for practical approaches to move things on.
We would be interested in hearing from anyone who wanted to work on these areas, potentially as part of a funding conversation.
We see this as part of our on-going work to support the field as a whole working to tackle the UK’s dirty money problem. We’re also interested in exploring further work in other areas, inlcuding priorities from the 2025 strategic retreat:
- Sustaining pressure for progress at the highest level of politics and business.
- Increasing pressure against more UK enablers of illicit finance, so they feel the heat.
- Engaging with fundamental critiques of the anti money laundering regime and explore radical improvements.
