Update on our strategy

Here at the Joffe Trust, we have been reviewing our strategy as part of our journey to closing in 2031. We are very grateful for all the input and advice we have received.

We expect to publish our updated strategy in December 2026. We will maintain our focus on making a lasting difference to the UK’s fight against illicit finance. We will support work towards three main objectives:

  1. Achieving 3 – 5 durable, high impact reforms that make the UK more hostile to illicit finance. These will be selected in dialogue with partners.
  2. Strengthening the field of organisations that tackle illicit finance in the UK. This includes both civil society organisations and cross-sector collaboration.
  3. Closing responsibly, in a way that minimises disruption for partners and uses our experience to keep contributing to UK philanthropy.

We will honour our current grant commitments and continue to run the Latimer Network. Last month, we made our final grants under our previous strategy. We are now briefly closed for new applications, while we make the transition.

We expect to publish details of our new grants programmes in the Spring of 2027 (i.e. approx Q2, April – June). This will include criteria and application processes. We hope to make our first grants under the new strategy in Q3 of 2027.

The new strategy will build on what we have learned from previous experience. We will continue to apply our founder, Joel Joffe’s, principles. We will increase our focus on achieving results. We will support others to coordinate collective action; and support leadership and organisational development among key partners, in response to demand.

Finally, we will also explore connections to wider work on tackling corruption and defending democracy, connecting illicit finance expertise into these major priorities for philanthropy as a whole.
